So, this is my first time “blogging” and I have chosen a momentous occasion to begin. Today is not only the first day of staff training but also my Mom and Dad’s fortieth wedding anniversary!
Forty years ago, Rodger and Candy were married in the Elmore Solomon Chapel and the very next day they started their lifelong careers as Camp Directors at Blue Star. I would like to publicly wish my parents lots of “Mazel” on this incredible milestone and also thank them for the love and devotion they have given not only to each other but also to camp over the years.
It has been almost three years since Seth and I were married at the Chapel…we will celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary on the 20th of September! Dana Paulson, our Pioneer Girl Camp Leader and Matt Eisenman, (also known as “Fish”), our Pioneer Boy Camp Leader are busily preparing not only for the upcoming summer but are also planning for their Fall camp wedding as well. Tess Levine, the Camp Leader in Juniors this summer was a camper in my cabin my first year as a counselor, which was her first year as a camper in Juniors!
At the risk of sounding too Rodger-ish (I am only 32) or too sentimental or mushy (I am 32 now), my observation is that Blue Star really is a family and is also a place where the connections we form are timeless.
Today, we will be reconnecting with returning staff members and former campers who are finally old enough to be staff members and of course we will be welcoming all of our new staff into the Blue Star family.
We are right at the start of what will be an amazing summer at camp, our 64th season! I know it will go too quickly as it always does….Time flies when you are having fun at Blue Star.

Hello Lauren! Welcome to the world of blogging! Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary! My husband Alex and I met while working as specialists at Blue Star in 1973. He as Alex “Photographer” (video production was not an option then) and I as Laurie “Horseback.” We will celebrate our 37th anniversary in August! Turns out Blue Star is an exceptionally fine place to meet wonderful people. We have 2 wonderful children who are both married to other wonderful people!
Sincerely,
